When visiting the tiny beach town of Spring Lake, New Jersey if you close your eyes you can feel the history of its heyday. There is a sudden sense of community present upon your arrival to Spring Lake. The locals-many who were born and raised here-take pride in their small town, and they love to share their knowledge. Some leave Spring Lake, but many come back making it once again their permanent residence.
A visit to Hoover Dam, located about 30 miles southeast of Las Vegas, is a must. An engineering wonder, the dam was built in the 1930′s to stop the flow of the Colorado River, which was wreaking havoc. The water was diverted to Lake Mead – now the largest man-made reservoir in the United States. Seventeen generators keep the dam going and you can choose from a couple of different guided tours to learn about the inner workings of the dam.
From its famous cheese to its cape-sheltered coast, Tillamook attracts visitors from around the world. Less than 100 miles from Portland, it’s an ideal spot to spend the day. Tillamook sits nestled in a valley of pastures between coastal mountains and the sea. Tillamook Indians gave the town its name: "Land of many waters." Its countryside, dotted with dairies, is lush and serene.
